You learnt about the structure of the atom and how this is linked to the properties of the elements and their positions in the periodic table. You also looked at how ionic, covalent and metallic bonding work. You investigated the properties of substances with these different bond types.
You looked at the reactions of the group 1 elements which are very reactive metals, and the reactions of the group 7 elements, which are very reactive non-metals. You also investigated the chemical and physical properties of the transition elements like copper and iron. You also looked at the behaviour of metals and superconductors. Finally you learnt about water. You looked at how it is treated to make it safe to drink, how it is tested and what can go wrong if it becomes polluted. |
